STOP HIDING YOUR WISDOM! Someone Needs What God Put in You
By Dr. Valarie Harris, Founder and CEO of Stepping Out with Purpose®
Let me ask you something, beautiful. What are you still holding back?
The very thing you keep calling ordinary may be the very thing someone else has been praying for.
The lessons you learned through heartbreak. Through disappointment. Through leadership, raising a family, building a career, or simply surviving a hard season. They are assets. And here is the question that challenges me every time: what happens to all that wisdom if you never share it?
Your Greatness Did Not Expire
So many of us have spent years pouring into everyone else. Our families. Our classrooms. Our churches. Our communities. We helped other people discover their purpose and quietly set our own calling on the shelf.
Then we started whispering, "Lord, is there still something for me? Have I missed my opportunity?"
I know that whisper. When I reached a certain age, I asked myself if I was too old to begin something new. Here is what God showed me: you are not starting over. You are starting from experience. And no one can take that from you.
Wisdom Begins at the Kitchen Table
Most of the greatest lessons of your life did not come from a classroom. They came from a kitchen table.
Maybe it was your grandmother, your mother, your auntie, or a Sunday school teacher. They did not always have degrees, but they had wisdom beyond measure. They knew how to stretch a little and make it feed ten. When life fell apart, they prayed. And when we were worried about everything, they leaned in and said, "Baby, let me tell you something."
Those women may never have written a book or stood on a stage. Yet they left a legacy, because they shared what they knew. Now it is our turn.
Proverbs 4:7 reminds us, "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Psalm 145:4 declares, "One generation shall praise thy works to another." It was meant to be passed forward.
The W.I.S.E. Legacy Method
W: Wisdom Is Preparation
Your life has been preparing you. The open doors, the closed doors, the wins, and yes, the mistakes. Stop seeing your age as a limitation and start seeing your experience as preparation. In 34 years in education, I learned that people discover their gifts in different seasons. You may have retired from a job, but you did not retire from your purpose.
Reflect: What has life taught you that you could not have learned any other way?
I: Identify the Gold in Your Experience
You are sitting on gold. Not just money, but knowledge, skill, and understanding earned over decades. What feels ordinary to you may be extraordinary to someone else. Second Corinthians 1:4 teaches that the comfort we receive from God equips us to comfort others. And you choose what to share, when to share it, and whom it will serve.
Act: Write down three things people regularly come to you for.
S: Structure Your Wisdom
A wealth of knowledge still feels overwhelming when it lives only in your head. You do not have to build everything today. Start with one lesson, one problem you can solve, one group you can serve. If you have mentored young women for years, name three lessons every young woman should know. That alone could become a workshop or a mentoring session.
We are not building another season of burnout. We are building with wisdom.
E: Expand Your Impact
Legacy is not only what you accumulate. It is what you contribute. Paul honored the faith that lived first in Timothy's grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. You do not need millions. Start with one. Your wisdom may become a book, a program, or a business, but income is not the only measure of wealth.
Your One Meaningful Move
Before the end of this week, identify one lesson your life has taught you and share it with one person who needs it. Write it in a journal. Make the call. Record a short video. Begin the outline.
Now say this with me:
My wisdom matters. My experience has value. My voice still has purpose. I am not starting over. I am building forward. And I am right on time.
Your wisdom was never meant to retire with you. It was meant to build something that outlives you.
